Norwegian Mineral Industry is the trade association for the entire Norwegian mineral and mining industry. Our member companies creates a safe and sustainable mining industry for the future.
The association consists of approximately 160 member companies producing crushed stone, gravel and other building materials, ores, minerals and natural stone, as well as suppliers of goods and services to the industry. We cooperate with the national association Norwegian Industry.
Since Norwegian Mineral Industry's establishment in 2008, we have reached a number of milestones. The Mineral Act was implemented in 2010, Norway's first mineral strategy was presented in 2013, and after the election the same year the new government proclaimed the mineral and mining industry to be an important strategic field in their inaugural address. Strengthened framework and predictability for all our sub-segments, as well as increased understanding of the mineral and mining industry's role in society are among our most important tasks ahead.
We cooperate with governments at all levels to ensure a positive development for the Norwegian mining industry. Our voice gets stronger as we grow more members.
Our efforts towards enhanced visibility and acceptance for the mineral and mining industries role in society are carried out in close cooperation with our committees. They consist of representatives from our member companies with expertise in their fields and external experts who contribute additional expertise.
Norwegian Mineral Industry assists our member companies in the matter of licenses, emission permits and other topics related to governmental framework, both nationally and locally. The Mineral Act came into force 1. January 2010 (English version available here, together with regulations). We assist directly through both the Secretariat and our committees.
Norwegian Mineral Industry's secretariat consists of four employees in the NHO building in Oslo. Secretary General Anita Hall heads the Secretariat.
